THE ROLE OF A VISTAGE CHAIR

The next chapter for CEOs, owners, executives & coaches

A Vistage Chair guides each member, ensuring their experience is powerful and valuable.  Each Chair is responsible for building their practice, facilitating group meetings, and mentoring the individual members in their groups.

Monthly Group Meetings

Facilitate full-day sessions with up to 18 CEOs from non-competing companies, guiding structured problem-solving discussions where real business decisions get made.

One-on-One Coaching

Meet privately with each member monthly for personalized executive coaching on their most challenging leadership issues.

Peer Group Development

With Vistage support and guidance, you’ll strategically build a peer group by evaluating and selecting high-caliber executives who contribute to strong group dynamics and cultural alignment.

Ongoing Learning

Learn best practices from fellow Chairs, access the on-demand learning portal, attend development events like Vistage ChairWorld and stay current with business trends through expert speakers.

Why Choose Vistage

As a Vistage Chair, you’ll work directly with CEOs to help them make better decisions and achieve measurable growth. The role combines facilitation and coaching with relationship-building in a structured framework.

Proven Methodology

Rather than building your own framework, leverage 65+ years of proven processes. The peer group model allows you to give each member a richer range of perspectives. Our proprietary issue-processing method and accountability systems empower smarter decisions that deliver measurable business outcomes.

Built-in Credibility

The Vistage brand opens doors that would take years to open as an independent coach. CEOs know what Vistage represents — 65 years of proven leadership development, coaching 250k business leaders — which accelerates your ability to build a quality practice.

Comprehensive Learning

You don’t have to have all the answers. The Chair Academy provides intensive preparation for your new role. You’ll learn facilitation techniques and coaching methodologies, plus business development approaches specifically designed for executive-level work.

Ongoing Support System

You’re not operating in isolation. The Chair community provides continuous support and shared resources, with access to first-party research and proprietary data normally only available to CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. You have experienced colleagues to turn to whenever needed.

Established Infrastructure

Vistage handles marketing and administration, including back-office functions, allowing you to focus on what you do best: working with leaders. This eliminates the overhead of building a consulting practice from scratch.

Build a Practice with Longevity

Traditional executive coaching is gig-based. Vistage Chairs build sustained relationships with members for the long-haul. Members remain an average of five years because they gain unmatched value from their Chair and peer group, a powerful network, and proven resources.

Peer Group Experience

At the foundation of every local Vistage group is our time-tested peer advisory session, which is facilitated by a Chair. At the heart of these monthly meetings is Vistage’s proven Issue Processing model.

One-to-One Executive Coaching

The Vistage Chair leads monthly, one-to-one executive coaching sessions with members to reinforce learning and ensure accountability for personal and business goals

Expert Speaker Workshops

Selected by the Chair to complement and enhance peer group learning. Our 1,000+ Vistage speakers lead interactive workshops on topics ranging from talent management to customer experience.

Chair Selection

During the first stage, you work with your Executive Recruiter to determine if Chairing is the right fit for you at this point in your career. This includes phone and video conversations, behavioral and leadership assessments, and signing an NDA to explore Vistage's proprietary Issue Processing model. If selected, you'll sign an independent contractor agreement and be scheduled for Chair Academy. Preparation begins 2-3 weeks in advance and involves completing assignments, attending live webinars, and partnering with your Vistage Build Team on your Build Plan.

A Practice That Pays

You're an independent contractor running your own practice. Your compensation is a sliding scale that rewards growth. The more members you serve, the more you earn.
